The whole cult like phenomenon that these watches seem to have become now generate prices that, in our opinion, are totally out of sync with the rarity of the watches. The fact is that the reproduction dials, some done as far back as 13 years ago, are every bit as good as the originals and no one really knows how to distinguish one from the other though few dealers have the humility to admit such! Instead they harp on about 'little secrets' such as the 'elongated 3', tight sub dial concentric circles, Singer stamped back etc not realizing that re-pro dials have utilized all these attributes and more for years. However, they have become such a commodity recently that it doesn't seem to matter as long as the watches them selves are original people are, it seems, willing to forgo a little sporadic insecurity to look good! I am in no way saying this is not original just that 'Paul Newmans' or 'Exotic Daytona's are what they are in the market place today. |
